Migration

Plusieurs personnes m'ont maintenant contactées pour me faire problème qu'elles avaient: l'impossibilité ou la très grande difficulté à poster un commentaire à réponse aux article. J'ai fait une recherche et, il s'avère, qu'  à différents moments Blogger a rencontré des problèmes comme celui auquel je fais face maintenant. Apparemment ces problèmes ont été résolu, donc mon problème est non-existant. J'ai donc pris la décision de migrer vers Wordpress qui ne rencontre pas ce genre de problèmes.

People have contacted me recently to share a problem the had: the impossibility or the great difficulty the had to write a comment in answer of articles. I did a research and it appears that Blogger has encountered these problems I am facing right now several times. Apparently these problems are solved, so I'm dealing with a non-existing one. I have thus taken the decision to migrate to Wordpress who does not have that kind of issues.

Du repos dans l'air

Ou pas. Même si je vais bientôt laisser de côté ce piaf pour un moment, ce ne sera que pour mieux me lancer dans un projet bien différent, qui devra être exécuté vite fait et bien fait. Si j'avais déjà la toile tire-fil mon pauvre toucan serait déjà en train de prendre la poussière.

Mais voilà, je n'ai pas la fameuse toile et je me suis donc évertuée à tester au plus vite un des articles qui m'attendaient dans le colis que j'ai réceptionné ce midi. Pas besoin de vous donner d'indices, la chose en question saute aux yeux.


Rest is in the air.

Or not. Even if I'm going to let that bird aside for a while, it will only be to get started on a project that has nothing to do with the first one and that will have to be well done ASAP. If I had the waste canvas my poor toucan would already be collecting dust.

The fact is that I don't have the said fabric, so I took care testing one of the products which was waiting for me in the package I recieved today. No need to give you clues of any kind the object in question speaks for itself.

Mais ce tambour n'était pas la seule chose dans ma grande enveloppe blanche. On y trouvait aussi des fils DMC et une toile de lin. Certaines échevettes, celles aux couleurs vives, sont celles que je vais utiliser pour mon projet bavoirs. Les autres fils aux teintes rose et violettes sont les premiers d'un long projet qui suivra celui de mon oiseau exotique.

But this hoop is not the only thing that could be found in my big white enveloppe. There were DMC floss and a linen fabric. Some of skein, those with bright colors, are the ones I will us for my bib project. The floss with the pinkish and purplish colors are the first colors to the long project that shall follow the one of my exotic animal. 

Une soirée mémorable

Ce n'est pas l'attente avant les feux d'artifice du 14 juillet qui a été la plus dure (eh oui si on veut une bonne place, il vaut mieux arriver plus tôt), ça aura plutôt été les quelques petites douches froides que l'on aura eu avant le feu d'artifice le souci. Mais, parce qu'il y avait quand même du soleil, la loi de la Nature, de Dieu ou encore de Cauchy nous ont permis de voir quelque chose qui fait rêver et sourire peu importe l'âge: des arcs-en-ciel.

An unforgettable evening

It's not waiting before the 14th of July - our national holiday - fireworks that was the hardest (well if you want a good spot, you'd better get there early enough), it was rather the several cold showers we had before that were the problem. But because there was sun Nature's, God's or even Cauchy's law we were allowed to see something that makes you dream and smile however old you are: rainbows.

Vous avez là la vue de la médiathèque de Strasbourg. La qualité de la photo n'est pas des meilleures, mais zoomer avec un portable ne donne pas les photos les plus belles du monde. Enfin, heureusement, même si le temps est resté couvert les feux d'artifice n'ont pas été annulé contrairement à la fête de la musique et du coup on a pu assister à un évènement qui aura duré un bon quart d'heure, avec toute une mise-en-scène, des couleurs, des explosions et un bouquet final des plus réussis!

What you can see there is Strasbourg's hybrid library. The quality of the picture is not the best one, the digital zoom of a cell-phone can't get you nicest pitures of the world, it's a fact. Anyway, luckily enough, although the weather remained covered and seemed threatening the fireworks weren't cancelled unlike our Fête de la Musique (June 21st we have all over France a day dedicated to music where we can go out in streets and people celebrate music, you can find bands, DJs, etc all over the place). And so we could assist to what was an fifteen minute long event with a good setting, wolors, explosions and finale of the greatest effect!

Avancée au 14 Juillet

Comme prévu j'ai terminé la dernière page du haut de la toile. J'en ai donc profité pour m'attaquer au bas du modèle et j'ai commencé par la droite cette fois. Le plus simple serait de broder avec un tambour ou un métier à broder je pense, mais ce détail sera bientôt réglé.

Advance on July 14th

As predicted I finished the last page of the top part of the canvas. I used the opportunity to begin the bottom  of the pattern, starting by the right hand side this time. The easiest way would be stitching with a tambour or a tapestry frame, but that detail shall be soon arranged. 

Depuis que j'ai repris mon toucan, j'ai avancé assez vite, cependant, je vais ralentir le rythme car je vais entamer de nouveaux projets sur le côté, dont un que je veux finir assez vite car il doit être fini avant la fin du mois d'août. Je continuerai quand même à poster les avancées du toucan tous les samedis, mais celles-ci seront moindres comparés à ce que j'ai pu faire.

Mais j'aime voir les choses du bon côté, cela me permettra surtout de mieux profiter de ce modèle, qui me donne l'impression de tirer vers la fin puisque j'ai attaqué le bas.

Since I have gotten back to my toucan I have been going on quite fast, I will have to slow down though because I'm going to get started on other projects on the side. Amongst these projects there is one I want to finish one before the end of August. I will still be publishing the progress every saturday, but they won't be as impressive compared towhat I have done to now.

But I like seeing things on the bright side, it will alow me to enjoy this pattern even more, because I have had the feeling that I'm reaching the end once I started stitching the bottom pages. 

Chut... c'est un secret...

Un secret et seulement un début d'idée que je n'ai pas encore approfondie. La seule chose que j'ai faite pour le moment est de couper ces carrés de tissus de 4 centimètres et il en faudra plus pour cette idée déjantée. Vu que dernièrement j'ai eu envie de me remettre au patchwork, j'ai décidé de succomber une fois de plus à une de mes envies du moment.

Hush... it's a secret...

A secret and only the beginning of an idea I haven't given much thought to yet. The only thing I actually did is cut these 4 centimeters squares and I'll be needing more for this crazy idea of mine. Because I have wanted to get back to patchwork recently I decided to give way once more to one of my latest fantasies.

Attention, cependant, car le résultat ne sera rien de traditionnel, bien au contraire. Je fais preuve d'une créativité digne d'une femme née dans les années 80 et le résultat auquel j'aspire n'est pas une pièce digne d'un musée, mais d'un sourire pour le peu qui reconnaîtront le modèle que je compte reproduire. 

Beware, for theresult won't be anything close to tradition, on the contrary. I will be playing with inspiration worth of a woman born in the 80s and the result I aspire to is not that of a work fit for a museum, but that of a smile of the few who will recognize the pattern that I intend to reproduce. 

Avancée au 8 juillet

Le titre n'a rien de bien original, mais au moins où je veux en venir tout de suite. La semaine est vite passée, et les petites croix se sont vite enchaînées également. Je veux dire, très vite. C'est peut-être parce que j'avais déjà une partie du décor qui était fait, ou parce je me suis rendue compte d'un détail de taille...

En effet, je tiens mal ma toile depuis le début, étant novice j'ai suivi ce que j'ai pu voir, les brodeuses commencent à gauche et vont vers la droite. Je tiens ma toile roulée entre la main gauche du coup et doit broder avec la main droite. Au début ça allait, mais alors que j'arrive à la fin de la toile, il faut que je tienne plus dans ma main et j'ai bien du mal à broder de la main droite. Je suis gauchère! Il aurait fallu que je commence depuis le droite pour aller vers la gauche.

Inutile de le dire, je me sens bête. :-D

Advance on July 8th.

The title is not that original, but at least you know where I'm heading. The week has gone by real and so have the little crosses. I mean, Real fast. It's maybe because a part of the environment was already stitched ot because I realized something quite important...

Indeed, I have been holding the cloth wrong the whole time, being inexperiences, I simply followed what I had seen, embroiderers start at the left and stitch to the right. I hold the rolled cloth in my left hand and have to stitch with my right hand. At first it wasn't too complicated, but now that I'm coming close to the end of the cloth I have to hold more cloth in my left hand and am finding it hard to cross stitch with the right hand. I am left handed! I should have started from the right and gone towards the left.

Useless to say that I feel stupid :-D

Avant que je ne me rende compte que je tenais mal ma toile, pour être une gauchère, j'avançais assez vite, même si c'était ardu. Mais, après ma révélation, j'ai décidé de tourner et la toile et le modèle et là les choses sont allées très vite et j'ai bordé avec bien plus de facilité. Du coup, même si je n'ai pas fini ma page, il ne me reste plus qu'une seule couleur le bleu sureau, qui est le numéro 939, je n'aurai donc plus besoin de modèle pour la fin de la page. 

Et c'est avec plaisir que je m'attaquerai au bas de l'ouvrage du bon côté!

Before I realized I wasn't holding the cloth in the way a lefty should I was advancing quite fast even if it was hard at times. But after my revelation I decided to turn both cloth and pattern and then things went by real fast and I stitched easily. Even if I haven't finished the fourth page of the pattern, only one color remains number 939, I won't be needing the pattern to finish that page.

It's with pleasure that I will start the bottom of my stitch work on the right side which is the right side for me! ;-)

Doigts de Fées: 2ème Salon de la Mode et de la Création

Pour une fois, il ne s'agira pas uniquement de ma personne et de mes couleurs. J'étends mes pages colorées au monde, bien plus vaste, d'autres créateurs et créatrices que j'irai voir et découvrir à l'occasion d'un salon qui aura lieu à Strasbourg, le weekend du 1 et 2 Septembre. Je n'ai pas assisté au premier salon Doigts de Fées, du coup, je ne sais pas à quoi m'attendre, mais l'idée même de voir ce que d'autres personnes font m'émoustille.

Il ne s'agit malheureusement pas d'un salon où l'on pourra acheter matériel, tissu etc, Je risque encore moins de trouver un nouveau modèle en point de croix, mais on n'est jamais à l'abri de tomber sous le charme d'un ouvrage, de trouver une idée à exploiter, de se lier avec des gens qui partagent la passion du fait-main.

Après un court échange avec Yunaki, j'ai malheureusement appris qu'elle ne serait pas de la partie pour le salon Doigts de Fées, mais je ne désespère pas pour autant, car lorsqu'on ouvre les portes du fait-main, on ne peut que voir de belles choses.

The story of the mayonnaise jar

I published this story on the blog last week, but I thought that it would be nice for non-French-speaking visitors to be able to read this story because it is a nice reminder. Hope you'll enjoy it!

When 24 hours do not seem enough… Remember the story of the mayonnaise jar and of coffee!

Once upon a time, a philosophy teacher took, in front of his class, a big and empty mayonnaise jar without a word and started filling it with golf balls.

Then, he asked his students if the jar was full. The students agreed to say the YES it was.

Then the teacher to a bow full of marbles and poured it the mayonnaise jar. The marbles filled the empty spaces between the golf balls. The teacher asked again to his students if the jar was full. Once again they answered YES.

After that, the teacher took a packet full if sand and poured it into the mayonnaise jar. The sand naturally filled in all the empty spaces and teacher asked once again if the jar was full. The students replied as one YES.

Right after that the teacher added to cups of coffee in the contents of the mayonnaise jar, and the coffee did feel the space between the grains of sand. The students then started laughing…

When they had finished the teacher said:

« I want you to realize that the mayonnaise jar represents life. The golf balls are the important things like family, children, and health, everything we have a passion for. Our lives would still be filled even if we lost everything else and we only had them left. The marbles are the other things that count like work, a house, a car, etc… The sand represents everything else, the small things in life.

If we had poured the sand in first, there wouldn’t have been space for anything else, neither the marbles, nor the golf balls. It’s the same thing in life. If we spend all our time and energy on little things, we will never have space for the really important things.

Be careful to the things which are crucial for your happiness. Play with your children, take the time to go to the doctor’s, dine with your spouse, practice sports or spend time on a leisure activity. There will always be time to clean up your house, fix the tap of the kitchen sink… Take care of the golf balls first, the things that really matter, establish priorities, anything else is only sand.  »

One of the students then raised his hand and asked what the coffee represented. The teacher smiled and replied:

« It’s good you asked. It was only to demonstrate that even if your lives may seem full enough, there will always be place for a cup of coffee with a friend.  »
